jSon Bailey     |     designer / project architect     |     baileyjson@icloud.com

Currently moving between the academy and practice, Json pursues ideas about ambient form derived from the thought framework "The Conceptualization of Surface," which posits that emergent forms are interpretive responses to situational phenomena. He holds a Master of Architecture and Urban Design from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Architectural Design from Iowa State University.

Json's design thinking is grounded in research, writing, instruction, and practice—all aimed at ascertaining the essential qualities of a given place. His system of forms explores ideas, functional concepts, and material quality through a sensitive methodological approach centered on cultural artifacts. Thoroughly engaged in identifying the ambiance each project aspires to become, Json works to generate inspired ambient forms that endure in the mind while transforming places.

He believes each project is a unique cultural artifact posited in and of the LAND (earth + water)—the ground upon which people form urban scapes, architectures, and interiors. Designers respond to the textural nuances of the ground, locating local culture at a particular moment in time: the grounds. Beginning with the client's thoughts, he resolves a project's potential through design, using it as the vehicle to exceed initial objectives, expectations, and aspirations. Every opportunity to design begets something meaningful for others. As it is said, "Architecture as design is the artful play of texture and light."

A continuum of research into David Hume's concept of the "Ideal Critic" forms the foundation of Json's emerging notions of the Masterful Builder. These thoughts—exploring aesthetics, ontology, phenomenology, and architecture—focus on the duality of design as an assemblage of knowledge that fosters a heightened awareness of the material world, seeking to inspire others to touch lightly.
